Environment + Microclimates is an immersive art experience showcasing environmental- and fiber-based art. This is a dynamic and vibrating collaboration between botanical artist Lisa Waud, curator/artist Sarah Rose Sharp, and Fiber Club*, a collective of fiber artists based in the Detroit area, supported by Detroit Design District.

Fiber Club* plans to exhibit contemporary fiber art with positive, engaging, and inspiring messages in University of Michigan’s Gifts of Art Gallery. Common Thread is a 2-2 1/2 month long group exhibition showcasing artworks in a space of care. Priority will be given to Fiber Club* participants, fiber artists, and people within UofM’s medical or patient environments. The aim of this show is to spark creativity, inspire hopefulness, and to promote outlets of making through fiber.

Fiber Club*’s first group show took place during September 2023 as part of Detroit Month of Design. The show followed the ethos of inclusion. Not only did all our members have the opportunity to participate in the show, but by positioning the exhibition as part of Detroit Month of Design, we invited the city to learn about Fiber Club*, creating a new access point for the wider community to engage with a diverse array of creative practices and to learn more about art and design that is grounded in fiber and textile-based art forms both traditional and contemporary.
